What is in-home care?

In-home personal care is a service provided in the home setting to assist the elderly or disabled with day to day activities. Services include assistance with a bath, getting dressed, toileting, meal preparation, and help with feeding if necessary. Additional services may include help with walking and getting out of bed, medication reminders, and household chores, monitoring vital signs, and evaluating your home for safety to prevent falls.

Who needs in-home care?

There may be an aging parent with physical or mental disabilities, a family member recovering from orthopedic or other surgery, or someone recovering from a stroke or other illness. No matter the reason, the age, or the issue, GoldenCares mission is to keep our community members at home as long as possible, maintaining independence and dignity in a familiar environment surrounded by loved ones.

In-home care can free a family member to do other tasks, work outside the home, or get away for along-needed break after caring for a loved one on a daily basis. Once you have decided to look into home care, a GoldenCare nurse will visit and, along with the client and family, develop a plan of care that best suits individual needs.

Who provides in-home care?

Personal care services are provided by Certified Nursing Assistants who have passed an initial competency test. GoldenCare Nursing Assistants receive ten hours of annual continuing education. Background checks and drug screens are done, and the personal care staff is supervised closely by a nurse who makes the initial visit to the home. After the plan of care is developed, the nursing assistant is instructed on the tasks to complete while in the home. The nurse periodically visits the home to ensure the care giving is of the highest quality.

When is care available to participants?

In-Home care is typically available to accept participants Monday through Sunday as early as 6:00 a.m., and services are provided until 7:00 p.m. In the event that a participant may need services outside of the available hours, please contact the PCA Administrator at GoldenCare to discuss other possibilities to help aid in caring for your loved one.

How do I pay for personal care?

Private long term care insurance usually covers personal care, as well as the Veterans Administration, and Medicaid, if approved by the Community Long Term program. There are numerous grants available in the community that will help with personal care costs. The GoldenCare staff can help you apply for these and help identify all resources available to assist with costs.
